2017 Tournament Welcome Letter
Welcome to the 2017 International Jewish Men’s Slo-Pitch Tournament. Now celebrating its 39th year, the IJMST comes to Columbus, Ohio. In the heart of the midwest, Ohio’s capitol is the largest city in Ohio and the 15th largest city in the United States. Columbus is home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, The Ohio State University, The Memorial Tournament, Team Rahal Racing, James “Buster” Douglas and many other notables. Companies like NetJets, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, L Brands, Big Lots and Cardinal Health also call CBUS their home as well as food service corporations like Wendy’s, Donatos Pizza, Bob Evans, Max & Ermas and White Castle.
We welcome everyone to our wonderful city. Whether you are playing for a veteran team who has been participating for over 10 years, a new team that has joined us in recent years or if this is your first time joining the IJMST, Columbus is excited to be hosting in 2017 and we are planning an existing tournament and an amazing visit for our softball players from Canada and the United States.
Every Labor Day weekend for 39 years, Jewish men from all around North America gather together for a weekend of softball, but more importantly the camaraderie that forms over the years and builds into life-long friendships. This year’s tournament will not break from tradition. Each team will play 3 games on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. The single elimination championship round will be Monday, with all games ending early afternoon and in-time enough for you to make the commute or catch a good flight home. We open our tournament at the host hotel, The Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center on Friday afternoon with our Hospitality Room where we will provide drinks, dinner and a relaxing place to get into Tourney Weekend mode. As usual, the blind tournament draw will be at 10 pm in the Hospitality Room.
The hospitality suite will be open both Friday and Saturday evening and includes a bar and lots of space to “hang out,” eat and drink. The traditional Sunday Banquet will be held in the beautiful Conference Center and will kickoff with a one-hour cocktail reception beforehand. All players will have a hot gourmet breakfast buffet each morning on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings.
The fields this year will be at Avery Park in neighboring Dublin, Ohio. Which is a short 20 minutes from the hotel. The Park is pristine and boasts 300′ fences in a five field pod configuration, restrooms, a picnic area, a playground and many more amenities.
As we enter into our 4th season of being a part of the IJMST, on behalf of the Columbus Menschen Softball Club and the 2017 Tournament Team, we welcome you to the 39thth annual International Jewish Men’s Slo-Pitch Tournament.
Go Bucks! Play Ball!
