2007 Tournament // Vancouver, Canada

champion2007VancouverThe 29th edition of the International Jewish Men’s Slo-Pitch Tournament was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada September 1-3, 2007. In what was likely the most thrilling final in tournament history, congratulations go out to Montreal Rothpan 74, your 2007 tournament champions. Rothpan 74 overcame a lackluster Saturday to win 6 games in a row and capture their first title. Incredibly, Rothpan not only won all 3 of their Sunday matches after going 0-3 on Saturday, on Monday Rothpan had to play and beat the #1 seed Detroit Hitman and #2 seed Toronto Gamblers to get to the final against #3 seed and 3 time champion Minneapolis All Stars.

The 30-23 final game was highlighted by an amazing 5th inning. A combination of great hitting and some bad luck on defense saw Rothpan put up 15 runs in the top of the inning. While many teams would have folded against a seemingly insurmountable deficit, the All Stars answered with 13 runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 1 run game. It was tooth and nail from then on with clutch hitting, tough pitching and brilliant defense until Rothpan registered the final out.

Congratulations go out to all teams on making this a well played and competitive tournament. Special thanks to the guys from Vegas for making their IJMST debut. Finally, special acknowledgement to the Winnipeg Sweepers who ended their 8 year losing streak with a victory over the host Vancouver Reign. Thanks to all who participated. We look forward to seeing everyone in St. Louis in 2008.
